My boy friend and I took my 18 yo son fishing for redfish in Golden Meadow, LA the weekend before Christmas. He had been a few other times, but was too young too enjoy the experience. It took a few hours for us to really find the fish; it was really cold and a bit windy ( N-NW). We tried popping corks, but that spooked the fish too much. So my boyfriend switch us to a tight line with a minnow. We quickly caught our limit and some. Limit was 20. After that we played catch and release for 20 more. We were exhausted. It was great! Catching 40 redfish was amazing. My brother has stage 3 lung cancer. He has never been trout or redfishing and wants to go. I can’t wait take him and am honored that he wants to go with me, his “little sis”. It’s so great to see someone’s face the first time they hook up on a big redfish. Share the fun. Take someone fishing!

I am a single dad of a six year old little boy we have been on our own for the past two and a half years. I lost my father when I was a young boy and I know that the countless hours that me and my grandfather spent under the 1097 bridge on lake Conroe jerking blue cats was his way of helping fill a void that had been out in my life. I pledge to take my boy to the seventh pillar out from the north bank under that old bridge at least one weekend a month because cat fishing is good for the soul and can help mend your heart

I can honestly say that living in East Texas, we are miles and miles away from the Gulf of Mexico. I take my kids to Texas Parks and Wildlife (Huntsville State Park) for kayaking, fishing and fun. The store there has been renovated and new items to appease my kids have been brought forth by the new management there. It’s even more of a blessing that you don’t have to go buy a fishing license to fish in the park.
It’s always a great day to sit on the pier, watch the sun set and enjoy your kids happiness. Kudos to the park store manager for bringing so much new and exciting stuff into the park for all to enjoy.
